1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Websites use them to remember your preferences, improve performance, and measure how they are used.
Websites can also keep information in your browser in other ways, and ours uses three of them:
- Local storage keeps a small piece of information until you clear it.
- Session storage keeps it until you close the tab.
- Cache Storage, filled by a service worker (a small script your browser runs for this site), keeps copies of pages and files so they open faster and work offline. Our site uses it only if you turn on offline access.
Safari deletes all three if you use Safari for 7 days without interacting with this site. In this policy, "cookies" covers all of these.
2. Types of cookies we use
Our own code sets no cookies. It keeps a few items in your browser's storage. Google Analytics sets cookies, and our service worker saves copies of our pages, only if you allow them. Our cookie box groups all of this into four kinds:
- Essential cookies: remember your cookie choices, your theme and the currency you pick for prices, return you to where you were on a page, and help a page recover when its code fails to load. Always on. They stay in your browser and are never sent to us.
- Analytics cookies: let Google Analytics show us how people find and use our website. Off until you switch them on.
- Marketing cookies: let Google Analytics use Google's advertising features. Off until you switch them on, and they only work together with analytics cookies.
- Offline access: lets our service worker save copies of our pages and files in your browser, so they open without a connection and load faster. Off until you switch it on.
Essential storage (always on)
ndco-cookie-consent
Local storage. Remembers the choices you made in our cookie box and when you made them, so the box does not ask again.
Set: when you click Accept, Reject all or Save preferences.
Lasts: until you clear this site's data.
theme
Local storage. Remembers whether you use light or dark mode.
Set: only when you switch between light and dark mode.
Lasts: until you clear this site's data.
ndco-chunk-retry: followed by the page address
Session storage. If a page's code fails to load, for example when you go offline, it lets the page reload once instead of over and over.
Set: only when that happens.
Lasts: until that page's code loads or you close the tab.
ndco-currency
Local storage. Remembers the currency you picked for the prices on our service pages, Indian rupees or US dollars. Until you pick one, prices show in rupees if your device is set to Indian time and in US dollars otherwise. Your browser reads that time zone itself and does not send it to us.
Set: only when you pick a currency.
Lasts: until you clear this site's data.
ndco-scroll
Session storage. Remembers how far down each page you were, so a reload or the Back button returns you to the same place.
Set: when you leave or reload a page.
Lasts: until you close the tab.
ndco-enquiry
Session storage. When you press Free SEO Audit, it lets the contact form open with a free SEO audit already chosen.
Set: only when you press that button.
Lasts: until the form has read it, or you close the tab.
Analytics cookies (only after you allow them)
_ga
Set by Google Analytics on ndcompany.in. Used to distinguish users.
Set: when Google Analytics starts, after you allow analytics cookies, and renewed on each visit.
Lasts: 2 years.
_ga_FDNTZ1ZZXM
Set by Google Analytics on ndcompany.in. Used to keep track of your visit (Google calls this persisting session state).
Set: when Google Analytics starts, after you allow analytics cookies, and renewed on each visit.
Lasts: 2 years.
ndco-visit
Session storage, ours, not Google's. Remembers the first page of your visit, the website that linked you to it and the last button you clicked. It leaves your browser only if you send our contact form, which then tells us what led you to it.
Set: after you allow analytics cookies, and when you click a button.
Lasts: until you close the tab.
Two years is Google's default. Browsers can shorten it if you do not come back: Google notes a maximum of 400 days in Chrome and 7 days in Safari. Before you allow analytics cookies, Google Analytics does not load at all, so nothing is sent to Google.
We set Google Analytics to keep user-level and event-level data for 14 months. When data reaches the end of that period, Google deletes it automatically in its monthly clean-up. Reports that show only totals are not affected.
Marketing (only after you allow marketing and analytics)
Google Analytics can then use Google's advertising features: Google signals, remarketing and ad personalization. It may send data to Google's advertising services, including doubleclick.net. These features start only after you first tap, click, press a key or turn the mouse wheel on the page, so a page you only open, such as a tab in the background, does not start them.
Google signals is on in our Google Analytics account. For people signed in to a Google account who have turned on ad personalization, it lets Google link visits across devices and add demographic and interest data to our reports. Google keeps the age, gender and interest data for 2 months, whatever our setting; the rest follows our 14-month setting.
We have also linked Google Analytics to the N&D Co. Google Ads account, with personalized advertising turned on. Any audience (a group of visitors) we create in Google Analytics goes to Google Ads, where it can be used to show our ads to those people on Google Search, YouTube and websites in Google's Display Network. This is called remarketing. We do not run Google Ads campaigns yet, but we plan to.
Google may read or set its own advertising cookies during these requests, on ndcompany.in or on Google's own domains such as google.com and doubleclick.net. It lists them, with how long each lasts, on its page Cookie information for Google's ad products.
Because Google Analytics is linked to Google Ads, Google's tag may also set these on ndcompany.in, after you allow marketing and analytics and first interact with the page:
- _gcl_au: measures how ads lead to visits and sign-ups. Lasts 90 days.
- _gcl_aw, _gcl_gb, _gcl_dc, _gcl_ag and _gcl_gs: set only when you arrive from a Google ad, to link the visit to that ad. Last 90 days.
- _gcl_ls (local storage): kept by the same tag for the same purpose.
With marketing switched off, our site tells Google Analytics to keep advertising storage, Google signals and ad personalization off, and not to send your data to Google for advertising.
Offline access (only after you turn it on)
If you turn on offline access, our site registers a service worker and keeps copies of our pages in your browser, so they open without a connection and load faster on later visits. When you are offline, our offline page lists pages saved on your device.
/sw.js
Our service worker, a small script your browser keeps and runs for this site. It saves the copies kept in ndco-static-v1 and ndco-pages-v1, and uses them to open pages when you are offline and to load files faster. When you are online, it refreshes them from ndcompany.in. It sends nothing to us or to anyone else.
Set: after you turn on offline access.
Lasts: until you turn offline access off or clear this site's data.
ndco-static-v1 and ndco-pages-v1
Cache Storage, filled by our service worker. ndco-pages-v1 holds our homepage (so the offline page's link to it works) and each page you open. ndco-static-v1 holds our offline page and its images, the site's icons and manifest, and the site files those pages use, such as scripts, styles, fonts and images. Neither cache holds videos.
Set: after you turn on offline access, then each time you open a page.
Lasts: until you turn offline access off, clear this site's data, or we change the service worker's version.
With offline access off, or never turned on, our main website runs no service worker. If your browser still has one from an earlier visit, our site removes it and the copies it saved.
3. Third-party cookies and services
Google is the only third party that sets cookies through our website, and only after you allow it in our cookie box. Until then, our website, free tools included, loads nothing from other websites: its fonts, images and videos are served with the site itself. There are two exceptions, both described below: RankGuru, which asks each website you name for its page, and Cloudflare Turnstile, which our contact form loads when you start filling it in.
Other services that receive information when you use our website:
- Cloudflare delivers this website and protects it, so it processes your IP address. It sets no cookies on our site. Its responses ask your browser to report a page that fails to load (Network Error Logging), and your browser keeps that request for up to seven days. See the Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
- Cloudflare Turnstile protects our contact form from spam. It loads from challenges.cloudflare.com, in a frame of its own, only when you start filling in the form. It sets no cookies and keeps one item, cf.turnstile.u, in that frame's local storage until you clear your browser's data. It uses your IP address and your browser's TLS fingerprint and user agent to tell people from bots, and does not read what you type. The form cannot be protected without it, so we treat it as essential and it does not wait for your consent. See the Turnstile Privacy Addendum.
- Sentry receives a report when a page of this website breaks with an error, through our own address on Cloudflare. The code that sends it loads only after an error, from this website, and sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Because a report has little or no effect on your privacy and helps us keep the website working, we send it without asking for consent. Our privacy policy says what a report holds. See the Sentry Privacy Policy.
- GitHub hosts this website on GitHub Pages, behind Cloudflare, and logs visitors' IP addresses for security. See the GitHub Privacy Statement.
- Share buttons, our social media links and links to other websites are plain links. Nothing loads from those sites, and they receive nothing from us, until you click one. After that, their own policies apply.
Our free tools at ndcompany.in/tools
Our free tools (RankGuru, the invoice generator and the image to PDF converter) are pages of this website, so everything above applies to them. RankGuru asks each website you name for its page straight from your browser, so that website receives your IP address and browser details, as it would if you opened the page yourself. The invoice generator can also store:
- ndco-invoice-details (local storage): your business details, logo, currency, tax, payment details and notes, only while you tick "Remember my business details on this device". Unticking it deletes them. It stays in your browser; we never receive it.
A browser that used the first version of our tools may still hold its storage: the caches nd-tools-v1, nd-tools-runtime-v1, invoice-generator-v1.0.0 and image-to-pdf-v1.0.0, and the local storage items ios-install-shown and invoice-template- followed by a number. The next time you open our site, it removes those caches and the first version's service workers. The local storage items stay until you clear this site's data.
4. Why we use cookies
- To keep the website working and remember the choices you make
- To let pages open faster and work offline, only if you turn on offline access
- To see how people use our website, only if you allow analytics cookies
- To use Google's advertising features, including remarketing, only if you allow marketing and analytics cookies
5. Managing cookies
Our cookie box appears about 20 seconds after you arrive. Nothing optional loads or is saved until you make a choice:
- Accept turns on analytics cookies, marketing cookies and offline access.
- Reject all keeps only the essential storage. Nothing optional loads or is saved.
- Edit preferences shows three switches: analytics cookies, marketing cookies and offline access (essential cookies are always on). The switches start off, and Save preferences keeps what you chose.
- The close button (×) hides the box without saving a choice. Nothing optional loads, and the box asks again on your next visit.
To change your choice later, use Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. It opens the same switches with your saved choices ticked. If you switch analytics off, Google Analytics stops at once. If you switch marketing off, it stops using Google's advertising features at once. The cookies it already set stay until they expire or you clear this site's data (cookies and site data for ndcompany.in) in your browser settings. If you switch offline access off, our site removes its service worker and the copies it saved. A tab you already have open stops handing it pages at once; anything that tab still saves is deleted the next time you open a page of our site.
Clearing this site's data also removes your saved choice, your theme setting, your currency choice, the pages saved for offline use and the business details our invoice generator remembers.
You can also manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. If you block storage for this site, our main website still works, but it will not remember your theme or your cookie choice, Google Analytics stays off, and pages are not saved for offline use.
To stop Google Analytics from using your data on websites that run its JavaScript (analytics.js or gtag.js), ours included, install Google's Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, available for Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Microsoft Edge.
