Thumbnails for seven kinds of video
The Bali thumbnail at the top of this page puts a traveller in a straw hat and backpack on the left, looking out over green fields and a beach toward a small rocky island, with the sun low over the sea. Bali 2025 runs across the middle of the frame in white brush lettering, with Travel Guide in plain capitals beneath it, small plane icons in the sky and map pins beside the words.
Each title has its own lettering. The fitness title is in heavy white capitals, with Day 1 and Day 30 on red ribbon tags, and the dessert title in rounded yellow and pink letters with a thick white outline. For the makeup tutorial, thin white capitals sit partly over a pink panel, with everyday look in script beneath, and the gaming title is white with pink and blue edges on a tilted black banner.
Five of the seven put people or game characters in the frame. The other two show only hands: one reaching for ice cream with a spoon, the other holding a paint roller over a work table. The money saving thumbnail centres on a wide-eyed man holding a piggy bank, and the gaming one adds a cut-out face in a yellow starburst. Both are shocked faces, the example YouTube's tips give of an emotion casual viewers relate to.
The colours change too: the fitness frame splits between a red-lit gym and a yellow glow, the money saving one sits on green with glowing line icons, the makeup one stays in soft pinks and whites, and the DIY one runs an orange band across a white sheet of paper.
